This weekend, our own Paul Lang, AIA LEED AP BD+C, was featured in Buffalo Business First! Thanks for recognizing and appreciating the talents of Paul Lang as much as we do! This is a great read about an even greater architect, and we couldn't be prouder to have him on our team. Read the full article here.
This year instead of giving gifts to one another, our staff gathered a donation (which the partners generously matched) which we chose to share with our friends at Journey's End today!
Journey's End is an immigration legal services program in Buffalo, "Where home beings again." From family reunification to permanent residence services, the team at JERS welcomes refugees without regard to ethnic origin or creed and assists them to become healthy, independent, contributing members of the Buffalo community. They even conduct the only free legal walk-in clinic in the Buffalo area that services refugees, immigrants, and U.S. citizens with their immigration needs and language support in 32 languages!
We are happy to support their work!
WGRZ tells the story of how our CANstruction creations come to life! Made possible by a $10,000 donation from Tops Friendly Markets, all 8,000 cans used to create the display are donated to the Food Bank of WNY when the display comes down; helping those in need in an event called Food2Families. This year, we broke one of last year's records, completing the project in just two and a half days! This is our eighth year participating in CANstruction and we couldn't be happier to present this replica Silo City, complete with Barbie kayakers! There were so many donations the silo is literally pouring over with food!

One of our young architects, Paul Lang, was named a Buffalo Niagara Partnership Spotlight Professional for the year, featuring a personal highlight throughout the month of October. In addition, CWM received the Pro Bono Publico Award from the AIA Buffalo/WNY Design Awards for our work on the First Trinity Lutheran Church. We truly believe in Buffalo's new slogan, "One Buffalo." Carmina Wood Morris proudly presents the July edition of our newsletter:
Carmina Wood Morris, DPC has been mentoring Interior Design students from Buffalo State College. Tasked with completing a semester-long project, CWM rendered their services to help these young designers gain an understanding of the buildings that make up the heart of downtown Buffalo while they create housing solutions through a variety of media. Mr. Carmina conducted a site walkthrough, describing the history of the buildings and giving advice to the students.
Desk critiques to aid the students in the process were performed by Mr. Carmina, Mr. Morris, and Mrs. Timby-Straitiff, three of our partners. Danielle Johnson in our Architecture department then participated in a portfolio review and mock interviews, giving the students a unique opportunity to prepare for the field. The final critique and IIDA event are scheduled for mid-May.
“We are proud to support this project again this year,” said Pam Timby-Straitiff. “Engaging the students in the true resurgence of this block ignites the passion for their work to a new level.”
Going into further detail about the project, Assistant Professor Eric Dolph for the Department of Interior Design at SUNY Buffalo State stated: "In the 500 Collectors project, students are asked to combine a large number of restrictions to arrive at a creative solution for a penthouse atop the buildings of the 500 block of Main Street. They investigate a hypothetical collector of a unique artifact and draw inspiration from that collection. They're also asked to consider how their design will address the historic character of the existing building and how to make a space accessible for all users, including those with mobility impairments. They prepare a full conceptual project including finishes and furniture proposals within a span of 6 weeks. Carmina Wood Morris has been an enthusiastic and invaluable partner in this project."
